“…keep the way of the Lord by doing righteousness and justice, so that the Lord may bring to Abraham what he has promised him.”
Genesis 18:19 ESV
We’re told how to receive the promise. This verse says the Lord will be able to bring the promise by Abraham keeping the way of the Lord. In Scripture, you’ll often see that phrase, the way of the Lord, or the Lord’s way. It’s a singular word. I keep wanting to say “ways.”
We don’t have to know lots of things, just one thing. We just have to know the one and only way. Jesus calls Himself, the way. We just need to know Jesus to receive the promise.
Of course, knowing Jesus is more than just knowing the historical facts. When we know “the way,” we are righteous and just, as the verse says. Those things just mean we do what is right. We humans are no good and being good. But in Christ, we can do all things well. We can do right. In fact, those who walk in the Spirit are called “slaves of righteousness” (Rom. 6:18) We must do what’s right.
